Energy Conspiracy?
(Shale Gas and George Soros)

Environmental activists have been extremely vocal in protesting the development of the Marcellus Shale, using unsubstantiated claims contending that the hydro-fracturing fluids will contaminate drinking water supplies and lead to long term environmental devastation. These protests have been effective in slowing the development of the Marcellus, including a complete ban on drilling in the prolific New York portion of the play.

The unfounded allegations of Marcellus Shale environmental issues have been largely supported and promoted by Pro Publica, a left-wing radical “investigative journal”. Pro Publica was founded by Herbert and Marion Sandler, who along with multi-billionaire George Soros, provided funding for the left-wing Center for American Progress. George Soros also founded Moveon.org, a radical liberal activist group which provided significant support during the 2008 Congressional and Presidential campaigns to elect far-left candidates and win control of the Congress and White House for the Democrats.

Natural Gas Connection
George Soros’ Fund Management hedge fund holds a large interest in Interoil, an energy company that has discovered a staggeringly large natural gas field in Papua, New Guinea. The initial discovery well flowed at a rate of 382 million cubic feet per day (MMCF), which earned it the right to be known as the largest gas well of all time by Guinness Book of World Records, only to be eclipsed by the second well which flowed at 705 MMCF per day. Interoil and Soros plan to construct an $11 billion liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant in order to ship the LNG to the United States.

Full development of the new shale reserves in the United States will cause natural gas prices to decline and stay relatively low for the foreseeable future, putting the economics of Soros’ large investment in Interoil in jeopardy. Drilling, production, liquefaction and transportation of the New Guinea production requires high natural gas prices in the United States for the economics of the project to be justifiable.

President Obama and the Democrats in charge of the Congress owe Mr. Soros a huge favor by helping put them in office. Will Mr. Soros’ reward be the perpetuation of high natural gas prices through restrictions on the development of American shale production and by outlawing hydro-fracturing? Will his reward cost Americans billions in added energy costs and tens of thousands of lost jobs?

It sure looks that way from here.
